Humanitarian Context
Egypt, a low-middle-income country, is experiencing a rapid population growth, which is putting additional pressure on infrastructure and services. This, with the limited amount of arable land, is weakening the country's resources and economy.
There have been significant improvements in human development indicators over the past three decades. However, there are large disparities in terms of education and health. Unemployment is a particular concern, with higher rates among young people and women. Action Against Hunger works to facilitate access to water, sanitation and hygiene, in particular to avoid the incidence of diarrheal diseases and their impact on chronic malnutrition.
