Humanitarian Context
In 2015, Central America has faced a very similar situation to last year's, in which again the lack of rain has resulted in the loss of crops of basic grains for about 1 million homes. This time the drought is associated with global climate phenomenon "El Nino, which causes extreme droughts or floods in different parts of the world.
However, governments in the region due to lack of budget have not implemented humanitarian aid programs in response to the current drought. Therefore, we have focused our work in recent months in collecting and disseminating information on the impact of drought, deteriorating food security and its impact on the nutritional status of children.
In addition, the difficult political situation in Nicaragua has hampered the development of humanitarian projects and has a negative impact on health systems, increasing the vulnerability of the population. The prevalence of malnutrition remains high, around 17%.
