Training of Coaches in Armenia paves the way for supporting refugees to build Employability and Entrepreneurial skills

From the 7th - 9th February, coaches from two partner agencies Mission Armenia and Partnership and Teaching attended a training on the SHUTTLE approach provided by Action Against Hunger in Yerevan. This workshop provided the coaches with information related to the innovative approach that has been designed by Action Against Hunger to support the development of personal and professional skills of unemployed and vulnerable people who are looking to find a job or start a business. This training workshop was financed under the project “Providing multi-sector assistance to support the immediate and longer-term needs of refugees from Nagorno Karabakh” funded by the European Union and aimed at equipping the coaches with the essential knowledge and skills to support refugees from Nagorno Karabakh who will soon be attending the four-month SHUTTLE program. Immediately following the training, Mission Armenia will establish SHUTTLEs in 4 of their centres in Yerevan and Ararat and Kotayk provinces and Partnership and Teaching in their centre in Goris in Syunik. Already over 220 refugees have applied to join.

We, the signatories of this statement, call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and a massive increase in humanitarian assistance to avoid famine in Gaza, and as the only way to comply with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2417. Allowing access for humanitarian aid to reach the civilian population is an obligation under International Humanitarian Law and immediate measures need to be taken to effectively address and comply with the demands of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2417 which condemns the use of starvation of civilians as a method of warfare.

Attacks in Rafah jeopardise our humanitarian work

The military operation in southern Gaza, where more than 1.3 million people and a dozen of our colleagues are sheltering, puts at risk our distributions of water, food, hygiene kits, shelter or waste collection and cleaning services to prevent the outbreak of diseases. In the last 4 months, Action Against Hunger has been able to provide fresh and dry food baskets, cash assistance and water, hygiene and sanitation projects to some 320,000 people trapped in Rafah, a place where more than half a million people are suffering from a catastrophic food crisis.

AECID provides essential humanitarian assistance for refugees in the first months of displacement from Nagorno Karabakh

Action Against Hunger, together with its local partner, Partnership and Teaching (P&T) has been providing humanitarian assistance to refugees in Syunik province from Nagorno-Karabakh who have been displaced in Armenia since late September 2023. Assistance has been provided through financial support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) over a period of four months from October 2023 to January 2024 and has includes voucher assistance and the provision of mental health and psychological support services (MHPSS).

State actors and CSOs meet to discuss Humanitarian Coordination in Syunik province

On February 2nd, 2024, Action Against Hunger in cooperation with Partnership and Teaching NGO organized a round table discussion in Goris in Armenia’s Syunik province within the scope of the project “Providing Urgent Humanitarian Assistance to support Displaced Families from Nagorno Karabakh” funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The round table brought together more than 40 representatives of State and Civil Society Organisations (CSO) who have been actively engaged in supporting the humanitarian response to the displacement of people from Nagorno Karabakh, many thousands of whom are currently residing in Syunik province.
