Humanitarian Negotiation Training in Abkhazia
Over the past week Action Against Hunger has held the "Clingendael Institute training in Humanitarian Negotiation " for our team, local non-governmental organizations and UN staff in Abkhazia. This training, conducted by Maria Romero from Action Against Hunger's Headquarters in Madrid, aims to train the negotiation skills of humanitarian aid workers in order to support them in negotiating more effectively in their humanitarian aid work. This initiative and opportunity was highly appreciated by the participants as it proved be both an informative and rewarding experience.

Building Skills While Providing for Basic Needs: pt1
With funding from UNHCR, Action Against Hunger South Caucasus has been running a “Winterization support programme” in Abkhazia. This initiative harnesses the potential of Abkhazia’s youth by providing practical, vocational skills training in carpentry, metal-work and plumbing repair performed in the workshops of local experts. Graduates from these trainings, together with the trainers, then provide support to local vulnerable households, through water and sanitation repairs within their homes and the provision of windows, doors, and other building modifications to protect them from the harsh winter elements. Recently, Action Against Hunger South Caucasus visited the households which have benefitted from these building modifications. During this visit, we placed a special focus on the installation of the water and sanitation facilities. Here’s what the recipients of this support had to say.

The ceasefire in Gaza has been insufficient, our teams continue to work despite the challenges
During almost a week of temporary ceasefire, Action Against Hunger teams have been able to scale up their humanitarian response with interventions such as the construction of a sanitation unit in Al Aqsa hospital in Deir Al Balah, including toilets and washbasins, which we hope to complete in the coming days. The renewed fighting puts our activities at risk, which is why we insist that a permanent ceasefire is necessary to meet the most basic needs of the Gazan population.

During a recent visit to the Charentsavan and Nor Nork multi-functional centres run by Mission Armenia, Action Against Hunger’s Communications Officer, Nicolas de Wergifosse, met with refugees from Nagorno Karabakh who had arrived in Armenia following the recent conflict in September 2023. Here are two of the stories he heard from those recently displaced by the conflict and now living in Armenia.

Around 3 million people have been affected by the latest emergencies in the Philippines. On 17 November, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the island of Sarangani. The country continued to face adversity as only a few days later, heavy rainfall caused major flooding, affecting several areas of the country. Northern Samar in Eastern Visayas is the most affected province, with 422,495 individuals or 107,781 families impacted.
