HARVESTING HOPE LHF PROJECT

George’s Land – Ras Baalbeck

Harvesting Hope: Empowering Farmers to Reap a Generous Future

Once nestled among green fields, George's ancestral land had been in his family for generations. As a retired veteran, he had faithfully served his country, but the small income from his military service was no longer sufficient to support his growing family. The economic instability and the devaluation of the Lebanese currency had turned his once-steady source of income into an income that can barely cover any life expenses.

In the face of harsh conditions, George (alias name) retained his heritage as a farmer, a legacy handed down from his grandparents and father. This deep-rooted passion for the land drove him to persevere despite the challenges he faced.George's family consists of his wife and three sons, two of whom are pursuing higher education. The burden of their education expenses weighed heavily on his shoulders. George turned in his love for farming as a means of providing for his loved ones.

The cash assistance he received under the project funded by the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund (LHF), had breathed new life into his spirit. With the funds at his disposal, he invested in the necessary farming equipment, the tools of his trade.

The impact of the cash assistance went beyond mere financial relief for George. It signified a lifeline that enabled him to renew his farming practices, maintain food security for his family, ensuring sustainability for years to come. As he proudly shared, "This help is indispensable because every farmer or business owner has different needs. With this support, I could acquire the specific equipment required for my farm, ultimately enhancing productivity and securing a better future.

Like many farmers in his region, he grappled with the lack of electricity and scarce resources. The absence of reliable power disrupted his farming routines, forcing him to seek alternative solutions that often fell short of delivering the desired outcomes.

With determination, he tirelessly worked on his land, single-handedly performing every task with utmost care and attention to detail. The absence of hired workers did not stop him. Instead, it increased his determination to make every effort count.

George's success story became a sign of hope for other farmers in the community. As Action Against Hunger continues to collaborate with individuals like George, our mission to combat hunger continues. Through a comprehensive approach, encompassing financial assistance, sustainable solutions, and community empowerment, we strive to create a future where no farmer is left behind.

This project “Improving access to urgent basic needs of highly vulnerable 5,339 Lebanese, 10.041 Syrian, and 300 Palestinian individuals in Baalbak Hermel and Rachaya through a comprehensive package tackling food security, nutrition and wash needs.” is funded by the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund (LHF), implemented by Action Against Hunger in Lebanon.
