Action Against Hunger held a meeting in Madrid with journalists to report on the humanitarian response they are carrying out in Gaza and the West Bank. The emergency team, who has recently returned from the Strip, explained their work to address the severe food insecurity affecting the population, which has worsened over the last eight months.

Despite the latest announcements, Action Against Hunger, who’s been present in the Occupied Palestinian Territory for over 20 years, in Gaza since 2005 and working non-stop in the conflict response for the last seven months, will maintain its presence in Rafah and continue working to provide humanitarian aid to populations across the Gaza strip, as well as to ensure the safety of our staff.

Lebanon alert: impact of Gaza conflict leaves thousands displaced and food shortages
The regional expansion of the Gaza conflict is having a devastating impact on Lebanon, where thousands of families, especially in the south of the country, have left their homes fleeing the violence, and the number of destroyed agricultural lands is steadily increasing. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), more than 92,600 people have been displaced by the violence in Lebanon as of mid-April.

Corporate volunteer visits are an integral part of the support provided by the Adaptation and Integration Clubs to assist refugees from Nagorno Karabakh develop their employability and business skills. Based on the needs of participants, a series of interactive lectures are organized by professionals from different business fields to impart their skills and experiences and to help participant in their job search or to start up a business.

At the closing of the G7 Ministerial meeting on Foreign Affairs, Action Against Hunger welcomes the G7 State members’ commitment to address food insecurity and malnutrition. We recall that reaching the SDG 2 Zero Hunger objective requires urgent measures to address the structural causes of hunger – armed conflicts, climate change, poverty and inequalities. We call for G7 members to commit to both short-term humanitarian action in emergencies, including in ‘forgotten crises’, and to a long-term transformation of food systems to become more sustainable, resilient and fair by investing in an agroecological approach.
