EPIC works for clean water and sanitation

On the 16th April 2021, an official event was held in Saguramo IDP settlement where rehabilitation works to improve the sewage system have recently been completed. Under the programme “Economic and social participation of vulnerable displaced persons and local population in the South Caucasus (EPIC)”, Action Against Hunger is currently supporting 12 public schools and 3 IDP collective centres to improve sanitation infrastructure and access to clean water. 

Among those in attendance were Regional Director of Action Against Hunger, South Caucasus Mission, Ms. Marcella Maxfield, the EPIC Programme Director, Ms. Friederike Rochowanski, the Director of the Agency for IDPs, Eco-migrants and Livelihoods Provision of Georgia, Mr. Besarion Simonishvili, and Deputy Governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region Ms. Manana Narimanidze. As well as infrastructure repairs, the project is support hygiene promotion in schools in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.

EPIC is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
