Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance, a respite for Layla’s family

Layla, a 31-year-old woman who is pregnant and a Syrian refugee, welcomes us into a small apartment where she lives with her husband and their 3-year-old daughter. Her husband’s parents and his brother with his wife and their children also live with them. The apartment, in the heart of Khandak el-Ghamik, one of the poorest neighborhoods in Beirut, has a dark entrance, a small kitchen, a bathroom and two rooms is the space where they live.

Action Against Hunger Entrepreneurship Shuttle participants continue to grow their businesses

Participants of Entrepreneurship Shuttles run by Action Against Hunger in Tbilisi, Tsalenjikha and Zugdidi continue to successfully develop and promote their businesses in different types of events. On 2nd December 2022, several shuttle entrepreneurs exhibited and sold their products at the Christmas Bazaar at the Sheraton Grand Tbilisi and then again on the 4th December at the Holiday Fair Dedaena Park. Finally, on the 9th December, they attended the Christmas Market hosted by GIZ.

Issam and His Elderly Parents Trying to survive the multiple crises in Lebanon

This family was experiencing such a difficult socioeconomic circumstance, particularly in light of the price inflation rates and several lockdowns that took place during the pandemic. Regarding their living conditions before being contacted by the Action Against Hunger team to complete the vulnerable assessment, Issam talks about that period by saying: “A team from Action Against Hunger visited me at home to assess my situation and provide me with the needed support”.

Madiha and her children are experiencing a change in their health!

Madiha (Syrian - 27 years old) fled to Lebanon with her parents in 2012 in search of peace and to escape the war. She met her husband Khaled, a Syrian refugee, and they got married in 2016. Their family now consists of 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl: Azzam (6 years old), Mohamad (3 years old), and Esraa (11 months). “We were constantly moving between different areas in the past years because we couldn’t afford the rent, so we had to look for cheaper places in south of Lebanon” Khaled explains. The family now lives in a tent in South of Lebanon, and “here we work in agricultural harvesting, and looking after some chickens and goats for the landlord” according to Khaled.

Between the 14th and 18th November 2022, Action Against Hunger (AAH) South Caucasus hosted a 5-day workshop in Tbilisi, Georgia on Projects ADS – Action Against Hunger’s new digitalized project management system. In addition to the South Caucasus team, staff from the Lebanon mission also participated in the event that was supported by members of the Digitalization Transformation team from the Headquarters in Madrid and from the Philippines.

Dana: “Now I am more confident… Now I can breastfeed my twins”

In this collective shelter around 50 families live there from different nationalities: Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian. Considering this center had many women and young children, Action Against Hunger and UNICEF decided to provide nutrition support in this collective shelter. The project implemented with support of UNICEF included addressing the nutrition security of vulnerable pregnant and lactating women and caregivers of children under five years of age by providing support on appropriate infant and young child feeding practices, timely detection of acute malnutrition and provision of micronutrient supplements in Beeka and South of Lebanon in south Lebanon.
